New year, new luck! Even though we’re still locked down here in Germany, we took advantage of the partially open borders and our project coordinator Gabu flew with Canadian skate-aid volunteer Kyryl to Namibia. Kyryl has already volunteered in 2019 to support our project in Palestine for three months. After COVID tests and lost luggage, the two arrived in Windhoek/Namibia on time, a week before school opened. January 26th was the first school day this year and the two are now activating our workshops on site. Checking skateboards, planning workshops, working out a new timetable with the teachers and at the same time our new local volunteer Michael was introduced into our work...

It's X-MAS time! Thanks to the support of our cooperation partner @westenergie, we could play Santa Claus ourselves yesterday and gave skateboards and the corresponding safety gear to the Alexianer-Martinistift. Some kids received them enthusiastically on behalf of everyone and were taught in a short workshop how to assemble the skateboard and some basics on which they can build further. Of course, everything was done in compliance with the current hygiene, protection and distance regulations. We’re happy that we were able to give the kids pleasure and hopefully we will visit more youth facilities soon. We empower kids!

We’re inconsolable, but the current COVID-19 situation cannot, must not and will not be ignored and therefore the C&A skate-aid-night supported by westenergie will not take place on November21, 2020. But as in other situations, we will not let ourselves be defeated and make a virtue of necessity. We're looking forward...

Thanks to the great cooperation, our westenergie x skate-aid skateboard workshops in the fall break were a huge success! We were on the road with our skate-aid coaches (including obstacles, boards and safety gear) in seven communities in North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony and the kids and everyone involved were totally excited.

This week we started with the control group for our study "Effects of a skateboard workshop on the psychomotoric skills and psychological well-being of children with ADHD" in cooperation with Prof. Dr. Heiko Wagner from the Institute of Sports Science at the WWU and Dr. Patricia Ohrmann from the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the University Hospital of Münster.

With our offer skate-aid@school we have been on the road weekly at 6 schools in Münster since the beginning of school time. No matter if elementary school or high school... on 30 days we were able to excite to excite more than 200 kids for skateboarding. Even when it rained, our coaches found alternatives for the kids, whether it was the school gym...
